Cassidy at Losar Festival in Arizona

These photos are from a recent festival at the Amitabha Stupa in Sedona Arizona which Cassidy organized. This festival was held February 7th, 2008. Cassidy, who was at the time receiving “hospice” care by a local Buddhist community had encouraged them to create a large event around Losar to attract visitors to their Stupa. The day after the event the offering boxes at this Stupa were broken into and the offerings stolen. Cassidy admonished the sangha there that this was their karma and they should not call the police. Within two weeks of this gathering, Cassidy left the community to return to Lucerne Valley, California. It was later discovered during his visit with this community, where he claimed to have cancer and that he was dying, that in fact he did not have cancer, nor did he have any terminal illness. See the Health Claims page for more information.

I have known William Cassidy since 1965. I also knew his family very well, particularly, his mother. When Bill’s mother died three years ago I was the one who identified her body and arranged for her funeral (at which I was the only participant). Florida public records will show my name on her death certificate. From his childhood onwards, Bill Cassidy has always been a pathological grifter.

In his predictable and typically vengeful style, Bill Cassidy is making efforts to get even with me for speaking out. With more than a little help from my unfaithful, soon-to-be-ex-wife, Cassidy has published a libelous little blog in an attempt to hurt me. The blog is at: lucjanshila.wordpress.com Please check it out. It’s sort of ridiculous for a number of reasons but I’m sure it gave Bill at least a little satisfaction — the kind a child might have from doing such a thing. The part about my involvement with the Shugden cult is particularly amusing in as much as I was either the first or one of the first English-speaking Dharma practitioners to speak out in opposition to that cult. I had been keeping track of the Shugden cult’s development in the West ever since I read “The Rain of Adamantine Fire” written by my Guru, Chatral Sangye Dorje in 1976. I also translated and helped publish an important monograph on this subject written by T. G. Dhongthog Rinpoche entitled, The Earth Shaking Thunder of True Word, published in 2000 by Sapan Institute. The other blog data were also carelessly compiled. For example, there are three children affected by my divorce, not five. Hey, but what’s a few more children here or there when you’re making libelous remarks on the internet? All in all, I would have expected something a little more slick from such a talented and seasoned con-artist.
